Netgear gs748t More than a dozen switches were evaluated in regards to power consumption. The ProSafe 48-port Gigabit Smart Switch by NETGEAR® was one of the few evaluated switches with the ability to consume 90 watts or less at full utilization of all ports. Such low power consumption provides lower heat dissipation and energy costs. In fact, the NETGEAR GS748T actually was shown to use even less energy than the product’s specifications indicated. Under testing, it was revealed that the switch drew only 75 watts versus 90 watts at maximum capacity. It was this low power usage that proved to be one of the primary reasons that the GS748T was awarded the Green Certification.

Advanced features of NETGEAR switches include:

•    Performance monitoring
•    Port configuration
•    Security
•    Port trunking to provide increased bandwidth
•    VLAN for traffic control

This certification is certainly important news, as green issues are currently considered to be the largest challenge of the IT industry. The fact that companies such as NETGEAR have taken strides toward developing environmentally responsible practices indicates that tremendous opportunities exist.
