Country Energy Seeks to Establish Intelligent Network by 2020 PDF Print E-mail

The largest power network in Australia, Country Energy, has joined a global effort that seeks to improve energy efficiency, network reliability and enhance the country’s use of renewable energy. As a result, Country Energy is now the second country beyond the United States, to join the Intelligent Utility Network Coalition. The global group of organizations works directly with IBM in order to speed up the adoption of business solutions and technologies that will facilitate improved management of grid infrastructure. As a result, consumers will experience shorter and fewer power outages and better customer service.

According to Country Energy, the increase in the cost of living and climate changes has increased the awareness of families in the need to manage water and energy use. Simultaneously, the power grids in Australia have begun to demonstrate their age. As a result, Country Energy seeks to establish an Intelligent Network by 2020. The Intelligent Network will offer three objectives:

  • Improved energy efficiency through ‘smart metering’ and in-home smart networks
  • A more efficient and reliable power network that offers self healing, remote diagnostics and real-time fine tuning capacity
  • Improved network planning

It is anticipated that these objectives will assist in combating the long term cost of making the transition to a low carbon future.
